  • Sophia Ferguson

Hello, I'm Sophia, and I'm working towards my Masters of Library and Information Science degree at the University of Washington. I've been in the water longer than I can remember, starting with "Mommy and Me" swim classes when I was 18 months old. Mom always said I was a "Fish" and since I was a kid I've spent my time swimming in pools, rivers, alpine lakes, and the Salish Sea. I swam competitively as a middle schooler, and in High School I was a "Swim Leader" for my school district, helping to teach 2nd, 5th, and 8th graders basic swimming and water safety. I have 10 years of experience as a Ski instructor and Ski Race Coach, and although I'm now in melted water instead of frozen water, the interactions with kids are the same. I love spending time showing kids just how strong and capable they are and helping them learn new skills and take on new challenges.

  • Charles Olson

I am experienced and comfortable working with individuals of all ages and abilities, including adults, adaptive swimmers, and those who may be fearful or new to the water. My primary goal is to create a safe and encouraging environment for every swimmer, ensuring that they feel supported and motivated to progress.

In my lessons, I focus on identifying and addressing weaknesses while refining existing strengths to help swimmers become more effective in the water. I believe in making the learning process enjoyable and engaging, which is why I incorporate skill-focused games and melodies into my lessons to keep them interactive and fun.

Regular feedback is an integral part of my teaching approach. By providing consistent guidance and updates, I help students understand their progress, feel safer in the water, and achieve greater distances in their swimming abilities. My ultimate aim is to instill confidence, improve skills, and help each swimmer reach their full potential.
